Scout Retreat 2002

Diocesan Scout Retreat 2002

The 2002 Scout Retreat was held at the Boy Scout Camp Potosi in October. Young men and women gathered to celebrate their Catholic faith through the scouting program.
Gathering for the Scouts began early for a day of fellowship, food and fun. Activities of the day focused on the scouts promise to be physically fit, mentally alert and morally straight. Time spent in the lodge and on the trail fulfilled all of the challenges.
Steve Hoffer, our diocesan seminarian at Our Lady of the Valley, spoke to the group of his calling to the priesthood and his life as an Eagle Scout. The importance to listen to and for the voice that calls us was stressed.
Using an 8 Ball at the local Wal-Mart store added humor to his talk.
Father Tom Gallenbach the DCCS Chaplin celebrated mass in the Serenity Hall area. The congregation set facing Fr. Tom and the alter with the Spring Mountains as a backdrop. The new Boy Scout flag identifying us at the Diocese of Las Vegas waved in the breeze throughout the celebration of the Mass.
Fr. Tom encouraged all present to be mindful of the beauty around us and to respect it. God’s words of inspiration were all around us, we just have to listen, he told the group and being responsible is our duty.
The next Scout Retreat will be held on October 4. 2003. Teresa McDevitt of the DCCS will head the course next year. All Scouts may contact their Scoutmasters, Crew Advisors, or Unit Religious Emblems Coordinators for more
information.
