Retreat 2003
SCOUT RETREAT 2003
"CAUTION: CONSTRUCTING A LIFE OF FAITH" was the
theme of scouting youth
in the Diocese of Las Vegas and Boulder Dam Area Council. They gathered at the
Mt. Potosi Lodge for a day to celebrate life with Jesus and each other.
Annually Crews and Troops meet to share and increase their faith through
scouting. The day challenges the participants grow spiritually and physically.
This year the focus was building a Christian life. Many of
the youth in
attendance are earning their Catholic Religious Emblem. The Ad Altare Dei
program
for Boy Scouts enhances the understanding of the Sacraments while the Pope
Pius
XII gives the Crew members a path to Catholic leadership. Currently emblems
classes are being offered at St. Andrews, St. Thomas More and OLLV.
Fr. Tom Gallenbach, Scouting Chaplain for the diocese, spent
the
afternoon with the youth helping them deepening their understanding of the
liturgy.
The youth used their talents to adorn the alter cloth with prayers, petitions
and their house designs for the evenings mass.
Adult advisors Grace Cassetta and Teresa McDevitt worked
closely with
youth leaders Heather and Jared Salemme of CTK, Jill and Billy McDevitt St.
PeterвЂs, and Josh and Jordan Wattenbarger of OLLV to prepare the
program content.
Music was prepared by Michelle Maher of POP and preformed by Kelley Salemme
and
Bill McDevitt. Marie Simons, Carmella Chris, Nora Zermeno, Denise Dushane,
Kelley Salemme, Bill McDevitt, Benita and Lynn Winget assisted with facility
and
craft needs. Troop 99 Scouters of OLLV Jeanette and Jay Bufalino, Elisa and
Elden Severin, Judy and Mike Saeman, and Dave Martin prepared food for the
event.
