The
first Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scout for the Diocese of Las
Vegas, Fr. Tom Gallenbach has stepped out of the DCCS
Chaplain position. Fr. Tom was appointed by Most Reverend Daniel F.
Walsh, D.D., first Bishop of Las Vegas. The assignment as first
Chaplain for Diocesan Scouting was in 1995. The recommended term of
office is two years and should be renewable according to the NCCS. Our
diocese held steadfast the renewable clause and has been most blessed
under Fr. Tom's tenure.
The following are the recommended NCCS qualifications:
- Interest and experience in ministry to youth. Yes, this is
Fr. Tom.
- Responsible for spiritual leadership and guidance. Yes, this is
Fr. Tom.
- Scouting experience is useful but not necessary. Fr. Tom joined
the Cub Scout program in 1933, that is a lot of scouting
experience.
Fr. Tom has been recognized by the DCCS Bronze Pelican Award, the
NCCS St. George Religious Emblem and the BSA Silver Beaver Award
from the Las Vegas Area Council. Fr. Tom will not be leaving the
Catholic Scouting program, he will instead be turning the Diocesan
Scout Chaplain role over to Fr. Steve Hoffer who is an Eagle Scout
and recipient of the same scouting awards as Fr. Tom.
Expect to see the face of Fr. Tom as future Emblems Board of Reviews
and other Catholic Scouting events.
Many "Thanks to Fr. Tom" for the years of service to the
Catholic Scouting community.
