Eagle Scout Recognized

Flags of Country, State and Scout Troop called to attention by Scoutmaster Bill McDevitt opened the Court of Honor to recognize Troop 903’s newest Eagle  Scout Brian Duggan on October 30, 2001. In opening prayer Fr. Ken Morris of St. Thomas More, reminded the Scouts, Scouters, family and friends who had gathered together to recognize Brian that through God we face the challenges set before us.

Fellow scouts touted Brian’s deeds along the trail eagle. Candles were lit, telling of the values that the scout must uphold. Duty to God, Country and Family emphasized the stock that the young man needs to progress in scouting rank. The steps are many for a young man as he climbs his way to theScouting Rank of Eagle. John and Carol Duggan the parents of Brian were thanked too for tireless hours spent in helping their son along the Eagle’s Trail.

The Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting presented Brian with the NCCS certificate of recognition signed by Bishop Joseph Pepe, Fr. Thomas Gallenbach DCCS Chaplain and Marie Simons, DCCS Chair. The certificate is available to all Eagle Scouts in Catholic Sponsored Units and of the CatholicFaith.

Freedom is our goal was the message given by Fr. Ken to new Eagle Scout Brian Duggan and the audience. Fr. Ken reminded all that freedom is ours to be responsible for and preserve. Freedom is not to be taken for lightly and can
be lost if not preserved.

Prayer by Fr. Gallenbach Opening the Eagle Court of Honor

Spirit of God, we invoke your presence upon this Eagle Scout Court of Honor.  The same Spirit recognized by the Native Americans as the beginning and end of the universe.  Oh heavenly Spirit open our minds and hears to see the good surrounding us as we pay tribute to a young man who has earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.

Nicholas Murone bring honor not only upon himself, but also his mother and father and family.  He bring honor upon the Scouting movement, the Civic Community and the Church Community

May his achievement be an inspiration to all the young scouts here present to strive for this award.  may his honor inspire other boys to consider the scouting way of life.

May his achievement be for the adult community working in the Scouting movement, a plateau-a breathing space:  And remind us that all the day to day hard work is really worth the effort. Any may it inspire us to expand our vision and see the good we do here and now, as an act of planting good seeds to produce worthy leadership for the future generations.

We thank you God for this moment of pride and joy, and we humbly seek the presence of your Spirit in our community now and for all times.  With You all things are possible. Without You nothing good or lasting will happen.  In your name we send up this prayer.  Amen

Fr. Thomas E. Gallenbach-Chaplain to the Catholic Committee on Scouting

EAGLE SCOUTS

CELEBRATED AT OLLV (Our Lady of Las Vegas)

"We gather here today in faith and friendship" said Fr. Robert Petekiewicz from the pulpit at OLLV as he began yet another Eagle Scout recognition this month. The contributions of Marlowe Rillera and Christopher Bufalino to the parish were many for these two young men. Fr. Robert provides the youth of his parish with a safe environment to meet and grow in faith, character and values.
The pastor, laity and community leadership have been providing programs that assist the youth grow through service and citizenship in the Diocese of Las Vegas at OLLV. Parish property enhancements, repairs and improvements have been done by Scouts as their required service projects to attain the rank of Eagle Scout. The community has also been greatly served by the youth of Troop 99
at OLLV.
A complete family of Scouting may be found at OLLV. Youth from grade one through age 20 are currently active in the parish through scouting. Pack, Troop, Youth Ministry and High Adventure Crews provide activities at the church while parishioners provide adult leadership.
