Clarification with Confusion
Language of the Chruch
vs Language of the BSA vs what you understand.
NCCS Religious Emblems, DCCS Religious
Emblems Mass?
Are they the same? No.
Can you have one without the other? No
and Yes. Or maybe Yes and No???? Contact DCCS/ACCS.
NCCS sets all rules for the Emblems
Programs. No changes allowed except through the NCCS Religious
Emblems Standing Committee with approval of the NCCS Executive Board.
Yes, you can join the committee.
DCCS or ACCS have all responsibility
and charge for the medal and the presentation of the medal. There is
no NCCS program for presentation, the NCCS, Activities Committee has
in the past proposed an outline for diocesan use. The NCCS does not
supply the medal. The BSA does not supply the medal.
Only DCCS/ACCS assigned name may order the
medals. This is a NCCS rule that may not apply to other
faiths.
Religious Emblems are Church programs, not
programs of the Boy Scouts of America, but, to earn the emblem
the recipient must be registered with the BSA.
Time-lines for Emblem work books are not
the same as time-lines for the presentations by the DCCS/ACCS. Refer
to work book and contact DCCS.
Promotion to earn the emblem is done in
each BSA Rank book always. Council office promotion is optional.
Promotion by the church is done on a
diocesan/parish/unit basis this is optional.
Blame and/or credit for success and/or
failure of any program is individual, group and/or community.
The Church considers
all Catholic sponsored BSA units (Pack, Troop, Crew) to be part of
Catholic Youth Ministry.
Adults registered in
Catholic sponsored units must follow all Parish, Diocesan and BSA
rules. The Sponsor owns the unit and the IH overrules unit rules and
is overridden for us by the Bishop of the Diocese who answers to the
Pope who answers to God.
Today the Bronze
Pelican Award is not an Emblem.
BSA Religious Knot: One
Youth, One Adult worn on the uniform. Medals earned are medals worn.
Youth knot transfers to all uniforms including adult.
NFCYM offers Catholic Recognition also.
Most people think Girl
Scout but here are other organizations who can earn the medal also.
(from NFCYM website)
The religious recognition programs may be utilized by members of:
This is just a taste of
how confusing Scouting in the Catholic Church gets. This was an issue
brought out at our meeting today that is being shared with all of you
who should share with your unit/parish/families.
Bottom line: Get involved, get trained,
share.
