Bishop’s Mass for Scouts 2003
Youth of the diocese registered as Cub Scout, Boy Scouts and Venture
Scouts assembled at St. Peter the Apostle in February for the 20th
Annual Religious Emblems presentation of medals. These emblems are part
of the "Scouting is
Youth Ministry" program of the NCCS.
This year though was different. Instead of a ceremonial presentation,
Bishop Joseph Pepe celebrated the First Annual Religious Emblems Mass.
Grace Cassetta, Director of Youth Ministry, headed the advanced
preparation for
the mass for the DCCS. Those in attendance were also treated to a wealth
of beautiful music provided by Michelle Maher, Youth Minister at Prince
of Peace and the talented youth of the parish.
Parish organizations of St. Peter’s including the K of C Council
#3741, Ladies Auxiliary, Sacristans, John and Gloria Goebert worked many
hour working with the DCCS to provide facilities to meet the needs of
the Bishop and recipients. Refreshments and reception credit goes to the
outstanding parish groups that came together under the leadership of Mr.
and Mrs. Lynn Erling, Sr.
St. Peter’s pastor Fr. Pat Rudolph and DRE. Camille Stockinger were
both recognized by the DCCS for they’re many years of assisting
scouts. They were presented the Bronze Pelican medal along with Fr. Tom
Gallenbach of St.
Joseph, HOM. Steve Hoffer of Our Lady of the Valley, Betty Hiller of Our
Lady of the Skies, and Tony Soto of Christ the King. Carmella Chris was
presented the St. George Emblem, the NCCS recognition for her service to
Catholic Youth in scouting.
